Vintage Scarf Tutorial #7:

“Scarf a Collar” Episode one!

This was a fun and easy project. It only took me about 45 minutes to complete!

I first took my t-shirt and draped the scarf around the neck, tying it in a single knot in the back.

I then created gathers with a simple tied white thread about every two-three inches, leaving me with little "puffs".

I did some pinning for placement...

...and began sewing the little puffs in place. As you can see, I left the back tied...it looked really cute that way! I sewed this into place as well (all with the same white thread).

This was the result...a fun, whimsical collar on an old tshirt. The stitching is quite loose; I could easily reclaim the scarf or the tshirt!

Cute! I'm looking forward to two more "scarf-ed" collar projects with different scarves and styles!

Way #4: Repurpose A Vintage Scarf:

Recover an old bangle bracelet!

But first…

Congrats to leanders_mom! (Comment #3) on winning the vintage necklace featured in my last blog through a random drawing! I will ship your prize tomorrow! :)

I've always got old things lying around waiting to be repurposed. This wide silver bangle (painted plastic) shown above was the perfect surface for a recover with a fun animal print scarf! (Thrifted from Hope's Outlet!)

First I trimmed the scarf loosely to the dimensions of the bracelet, which varied in width. I knew I would need to adjust after gluing because the material is so sheer and stretchy, so I wasn't too exact with this, being that it was darn near impossible to make a perfect pattern of the bangle because of its variation.

Next I painted with fabric glue--any brand will do.

I covered the entire surface with a brush.

I fitted the sheer scarf strip over the bangle and allowed it to get slightly tacky.

Once it was slightly tacky and I was sure of placement, I trimmed the scarf a little thinner than all the way to the edges. I did this because I knew the fabric would fray slightly upon being cut, and I wanted the inside surface of the bangle to be smooth. Allowing a bit of edge allowed me to cover the slight fray with extra fabric glue, for a smooth outer edge.

Here's how it turned out! I really thought it was very cute.

OK, back to business--I'm sorry for the cheesy pun. If you accept my apology, let's move on to tutorial #3 on fun ways to wear vintage scarfs!

As you can see from this entry, I took a fun and colorful vintage scarf from Hope's Outlet (normally priced between .49-.99 cents) and created an adorable and fancy brooch simply by twisting it into knots, twirling it around, and pinning it to my cardigan with a safety pin! To finish it off, I placed an additional white rose pin of mine in the center, which I happened to have matching earrings for (also pictured in the accessories below).

The rest of the outfit is ONE HUNDRED percent thrifted, totalling a cost of about $13 for shirt, skirt (the black ribbed skirt has showed up OFTEN in my blog; it goes perfectly with EVERYTHING!), cardigan, vintage white chenille cloche with rhinestone embellishment and shoes.

Can you believe that I paid 99 cents for that red patent leather Anne Klein belt, in impeccably new condition???

Many items did indeed come from Hope's Outlet but the adorable cloche was a great find at Goodwill of Grand Rapids, MI on Division street! They have now separated many vintage items into a section (if you prefer not to dig around for them) and this was among some other very neat pieces!

I loved this outfit because it felt very feminine and classic. Lots of colors and textures made it feel fun as well!
