THRIFT & INSPIRE: Stripes

STRIPES STRIPES STRIPES

Whenever I wear fashion glasses--or glasses of any kind--I always feel like I'm doing this ^^^^. (Checking for spots. It drives me nuts! I'm so OCD.)

Smudges and dust aside, I think it's time for an eye exam soon. Likely, a REAL prescription isn't too far ahead for me...sigh. A few years back I had a touch of astigmatism in my left eye, but my vision was still ALMOST 20/20. These days, it feels like there may have been a slight decline...bummer. (Blaming it on my computer screen).

I LOVE STRIPES!

They go with everything. Shown above is my dark purple corduroy blazer (thrfited), black velour pants, black boots, and striped tee from the Gap that was a clearance item and gift from my girlfriend years ago. Also, 99 cent thrifted vintage clip ons seen here: WOWIE ZOWIE THRIFT HAUL. I've worn it with so many outfits...and I honestly have yet to find a crazy print it WON'T go with. As you can see, most of the shots are simply from my iPhone, because I've been so utterly busy with projects lately. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with my SLR this weekend and I've got just the outfit in mind...

Thrift Sessions: Besties in G-rap

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's day! I threw in a picture of the tulips the hubby got me; I've always loved them so much!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of a lovely afternoon of lunch, cocktails and thrifting with one of my best gal pals, Jenna. We went on her "route"--which was recently established when she moved to Grand Rapids. This thrills me because 1) I love thrifting in Grand Rapids and 2) Jenna used to be more of a retail gal, and now she is turning into a thrift addict...and I'd like to think that I'm a small part of it! Haha! :)

We both found some great thrift finds! Over the next few days, I'll be posting thrift finds and outfits from our adventure. I'm starting with some of the things that I picked up!

I TRIED to resist this vintage royal blue dress with a plunging neckline and lavender suede accents in my size because it was $5 (you know I like my dollar dresses!)...but I simply couldn't.

The beer steins and mention of pretzels sold me on this record for .50. Can't wait to put it up in the bar! It is pictured here with the vintage red gingham short sleeve blouse I bought for 1.29 the same day. It is late 60's and I can't WAIT to wear it.

Jenna spotted this little white clutch for $2 (overpriced, I think) and thought it was cute, there wasn't much drawing me to it until I saw the quadrilateral way it opens and the little sliding clip at the top. Cute and interesting! It is pictured on a vintage scarf I bought as well.

Vintage pink rhinestone clip-ons...just had to.

This crazy bird brooch HAD to come home with me for .99 cents.

Yellow rhinestone clip-ons! I know...I need to stop.

This crab tie called out to me...and I responded. I'll post an outfit shot with it soon; pictured in the background was a book I picked up for my son that is a favorite, Lous Ehlert's Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf.

Jenna also talked me into buying this glass loose leaf tea pot and at $2.50, it wasn't too hard to convince me. I'm already excited about some fun "infusions" I am planning on making this week--I was rifling through my spice cupboard yesterday while making chai and got some great ideas!

Well "RED" and mixing it up!

Red accents, oh, how I love thee!

(Let's start by mentioning that this entire outfit was less than $10! Been thrifting this week to see what you can find? Not sure where to go? Check out some of my Thrift Reviews--there are more to come!)

This pleated polyster black skirt and vintage print shirt lent itself well to a faux red patent leather belt and purse. It just MADE SENSE to throw a little leopard print in there! FYI: the purse is available for sale at my shop here

and I think I'll add the shirt soon, as well!

The glasses go well with this outfit! I think this ensemble would look great with a side bun or a relaxed low pony, but an updo would work well, also!

I put two sets of shoes up with this outfit that I thought would work well. One is a pair of vintage JC Penny's leapard print ballet slippers that I got for $1 in the package, brand new, at Hope's Outlet in Grand Haven! The other are a pair of suede loafers with leopoard print accents on the top of the toe and the heel. I bought these at Family Dollar for $7. They were just too "rockabilly cute" to pass up!

Are you a scaredy cat when it comes to mixing colors and patterns? It's no secret that red, tan and black go nicely together. But there's no need to fear mixing prints, particularly when they are matching color schemes! You never know until you try.

It's probably clear how well these two blend together:

At the same time, you don't necesarily need a "safe bet" to make two prints work together. It's a bit of a risk, but when it comes together, the multi-textured and rich result is well worth it. Since I'm not in the mood to "hate" on combos that don't work and look hideous, let's take a look at some scoreboard ensembles!
